I still think about them every day. Samson died in December 2004, Jasper in May 2005. There aren't really words to describe how much they truly meant to me. In their quiet, unassuming way, they simply stole my heart and changed my life.

The devastating ache I felt when they passed away hasn't completely gone away yet. Sometimes it flares up and I break down sobbing all over again. They've always been so much a part of me that it's still a little hard to grasp that I'll never in my lifetime see them again, or be able to reach out and run my fingers through their smooth, thick coat. Sammy will never hide between my legs again. Jassy will never again greet me with a ball in his mouth. I still really really miss them.

But at least I know that their memory lives on. In me, in my home, in all the dogs that I have helped and will continue to help on their behalf. Because the day that Jassy died and joined Sammy at the Bridge is the day their spirit became immortalized and gave life to so many others.

The legacy of Jasper & Samson lives on in these dogs:

Some dogs stay longer than others. Each bring a lot of laughter and love and make the pain of losing Jasper & Samson bearable. It's true that it's hard to say goodbye when they get adopted, but I realize I'm just a resting point on their long journey home. Jasper & Samson brought them to me and when one goes, another one is welcomed. The legacy of my first 2 dogs continues so that even though I had them here with me for only 10 years, they will live in my heart for a lifetime.

I pray that we will romp again at the Rainbow Bridge.
